The work of Abdoulaye Cissé, an essential figure in the cultural history of Burkina Faso and in African music, is worthy of an entire book in itself. Having taught himself to play the guitar while studying to be a teacher, he recorded his first songs in the 1960s. Fed by West-African, Afro-Cuban, African-American, and French musical influences, Cissé sang throughout the country with the group Super Volta, playing at dances and popular events. After creating his first songs with the Club Voltaïque du Disque, he launched a career in theater with the “Mutuelle Nouvelle Génération” troupe. It was on his way to record an album in Benin in 1980 that he met the Black Santiagos. After becoming “Les Vautours”, they recorded this self-titled song.
