Acteur, poète, musicien, producteur, réalisateur, distributeur, organisateur de festivals et administrateur culturel, Sanvi Alfred Panou est une immense institution à lui tout seul. Né à Lomé en 1945, brillant étudiant au cours René Simon dans les années 1960, il est l’un des premiers acteurs noirs de France, jouant notamment pour Jean-Luc Godard. Révolté par le racisme qui sévit dans la société et le milieu artistique français à une époque où on focalise sur la lutte pour les droits civiques aux Etats-Unis, il décide de créer un spectacle intitulé Black Power, à partir de textes d’Angela Davis, Stokely Carmichael, Amiri Baraka et d’autres militants afro-américains. Accompagné pendant une heure par le batteur Alain Cloche et le percussionniste Aralamon Hazoume, Panou expose la colère et la révolte noire. Il développe également sa polyvalence en s’ouvrant un premier réseau qui lui permettra de monter plus tard un second spectacle engagé autour de la lutte contre l’apartheid. Pour Panou, l’art doit être fondamentalement politique et les Noirs ne peuvent pas se permettre, vu la situation, de jouer des rôles humiliants ou dégradants.
Au terme d’une des représentations de Black Power au Lucernaire, Panou échange avec Pierre Barouh, le producteur de Jacques Higelin et de nombreuses autres personnalités qui assistent chaque semaine au spectacle. A l’origine de Saravah, le premier label indépendant français qui produit notamment Brigitte Fontaine et Areski Belkacem, Barouh accepte de produire Panou sur deux morceaux, Je suis un sauvage et Le Moral nécessaire. Born in Lomé in 1945, a brilliant student at the Cours René Simon in the 1960s, he was one of the first black actors in France and worked in particular with Jean-Luc Godard. Incensed by the ambient racism in society and in the French artistic world at a time when there was a major focus on the fight for civil rights in the United States, he decided to create a show entitled Black Power, using words by Angela Davis, Stokely Carmichael, Amiri Baraka, and other African-American activists. Accompanied for an hour by drummer Alain Cloche and percussionist Aralamon Hazoume, Panou articulated black anger and revolt. He also developed his versatility by opening the first network that later allowed him to put together a second activist show about the struggle against apartheid. For Panou, art must be fundamentally political, and, given the situation, black people cannot allow themselves to play humiliating or degrading roles. After a performance of Black Power at the Lucernaire, Panou talked with Pierre Barouh, producer for Jacques Higelin and a number of other stars who attended the show week after week. L'EP s'ouvre sur un nouveau classique de Rocé, "Tenir Debout", un morceau essentiel, actuel mais pas à la mode.
La face A (tenir debout - spectacle permanent - poings serrés) s'apprécie sans fin, le fond reste toujours aussi incisif et la forme se bonnifie avec le temps.
La face B (cpitxlistes - han solo - jingle bells) est plus inattendue, on sent l'expérimentation.
Le livret accompagnant le disque ajoute une vrai richesse au propos général.
