La naissance le 1er janvier 1804 de la première république noire d’Haïti est la conséquence d’une révolution dans la colonie la plus riche du Nouveau Monde, Saint-Domingue, et d’une victoire des Africains rendus en esclavage contre l’armée de Napoléon qui était alors la plus puissante du monde. Censurée pour ne pas inspirer d’autres mouvements anti -esclavagistes à déclencher des guerres de libération, l’histoire d’Haïti est faite de gloire et de déboires, de victoires et de drames. La dette imposée par la France à l’indépendance du pays, le conflit avec le territoire voisin de la République Dominicaine, l’instabilité des régimes marqués par une élite qui s’entre-déchire, l’occupation militaire américaine, la violence politique sous la période duvaliériste, les nouveaux impérialismes humanitaires et onusiens, le séisme de janvier 2010… Et pourtant, Haïti est le territoire qui produit peut-être le plus de cultures et de spiritualités, témoignages d’un espoir constamment renouvelé d’un monde meilleur. Haïti symbolise aussi un double exil, celui d’un peuple qui se sait fondamentalement africain dans les Amériques, et d’une diaspora qui se sait fondamentalement haïtienne dans le monde.
Véritable coup de cœur, cette chanson de l’artiste haïtien Manno Charlemagne résume ce sentiment d’exil qui habite cette diaspora, mais aussi le besoin de revenir s’engager. The birth on January 1st, 1804 of the first black republic of Haiti was the result of a revolution in the richest colony in the New World, Saint-Domingue, and of the victory of Africans made slaves, against Napoleon’s army, which was then the most powerful in the world. Condemned, so that it would not inspire other anti-slavery movements to launch liberation struggles, the history of Haiti is one of glory and of setbacks, of victories and tragedies. The debt imposed by France upon this country’s independence, its conflict with the neighboring Dominican Republic, the instability of regimes marked by an elite torn by infighting, the American military occupation, political violence throughout the Duval period, the new humanitarian and U.N.-based forms of imperialism, the January 2010 earthquake… And yet, Haiti is a land that produces possibly the greatest abundance of cultures and spiritual traditions, proof of constantly renewed hope for a better world. Haiti also symbolizes dual exile, that of a people that knows it is fundamentally African, at the heart of the Americas, and of a diaspora that feels fundamentally Haitian, within the rest of the world.

L'EP s'ouvre sur un nouveau classique de Rocé, "Tenir Debout", un morceau essentiel, actuel mais pas à la mode.
La face A (tenir debout - spectacle permanent - poings serrés) s'apprécie sans fin, le fond reste toujours aussi incisif et la forme se bonnifie avec le temps.
La face B (cpitxlistes - han solo - jingle bells) est plus inattendue, on sent l'expérimentation.
Le livret accompagnant le disque ajoute une vrai richesse au propos général.
